Crush: 2021 Viognier
2+2This event open ONLY to Garagistes who are 2+2 vaccinated (that is, it’s been 2 weeks since your second shot).
We’ll be bringing in about 1000 lbs or so of Viognier. As veterans of the Viognier experience know, that means not just destemming, but pressing the same day. The press has always taken some time to do, but this year, we’re going to try mixing rice hulls in with the destemmed fruit, which with luck will create more pathways for the juice to run out. We’ll see!
The truck will land back in Portland by 1pm or so, so if you can start earlier, it would be fantastic to get the fruit processed earlier. Then the press can go at whatever pace it wants and we still won’t have too late an evening.
If you can come early, please say so in the comments or text me. Thanks!!!
We’ll all be vaccinated, and we’ll either be outside or have doors and windows open, but I’ll be wearing a mask just for extra safety.
- Need 8-10 people total (including Matt)
- Bring a mask you’re comfortable wearing
- Wear shoes or boots you can get wet
- Bring a post-crush snack to share if you’re able
COVID-19 NOTE: Vaccinated or not, if you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or sudden loss of sense of smell, PLEASE STAY HOME.

I can only stay until about 6:30, but I could start as early as 2pm
Damnit I’m stuck in Yreka–tried to recruit the wife but she’s got a shift.
I will come at 2 to help clean and set up, but will have to leave early.
I can come by to help set up the shute (Schinette!) but can’t stay, sorry.
Wish we could help, but we are driving along the (iconic) Lochsa river. Sandy and Roger
